Thank you so much for visiting our blog! Our art room blog will always be a great place to view photos of student artwork, as well as to learn in advance what we will be doing in art class. :)
It has been an exciting and great first week! This week we learned about voice levels, and completed a scavenger hunt of the art room to learn more about where supplies are kept, as well as class expectations and safety in the art room. We will continue to discuss how to take care of, and the use of, our art supplies as the year unfolds.
Students really enjoyed meeting my "special art friend", Mona Lisa. The Mona Lisa will always be in art class with us. She helps us to remember what a student looks like who is ready to make artwork. In addition to her picture as a reminder we play a short call and response game. I say "show me the Mona" and students know to respond with "Lisa". After they say "Lisa" students show me their best Mona Lisa ( 0 voice level, watching eyes, and still hands). We had a lot of fun practicing the Mona Lisa this week!
For the upcoming week in kindergarten we will be reading, "Beautiful Oops", by Barney Saltzberg, and creating our first piece of artwork of the year. I am very excited to be able to post photos of artwork very soon!
In first and second grade we will be learning about self portraits, and creating "hand self portraits". Photos and another post about our "hand self portraits" is also soon to come.
Enjoy your weekend!
